LEAP SCIENCE

In Ontario, the SNC2L course is a Grade 10 Locally Developed science credit designed for students who may be working below grade level, need to reinforce foundational skills, or are transitioning into the workplace preparation pathway. It is not a formal prerequisite for the Grade 9 de-streamed science course, SNC1W, as the Grade 9 course builds directly on the elementary science and technology program and has no formal prerequisite. For students who have officially completed only Grades 4 to 8, the SNC2L course, if available, can serve as a supportive transition before attempting SNC1W, helping to build essential literacy, numeracy, and practical science skills that were missed in their earlier education. The “LEAP” acronym typically refers to separate support programs for specific groups, such as newcomers needing intensive literacy support (Literacy Enrichment Academic Program) or parenting youth (Learning, Earning and Parenting), and is not directly tied to the SNC2L course code or the general pathway to SNC1W for most students.
